Logging and Crafting
Logging and crafting are my main activities of the moment: logging the mountain of video we recorded over the last year and crafting potential story lines or narratives of our documentary. When possible, the activities also include planning for the next stage of the Adapting to Scarcity project.
These acttivities are....Fulfilling? Yes.
Interesting? Most of the time.
Particularly news worthy or exciting to hear about the day to day activities? Not really. In short, A2S is in an important yet not very thrilling stage of existence.
The challenge is to remain focused on all this logging and simultaneously envision how we can move forward, continue working around water issues and community media in the US, and remain connected with similar movements in Guadalajara. Solidarity and international collaboration are key to large scale changes and movements - hence the design of the Adapting to Scarcity project - but difficult to maintain active and engaged.
Luckily, there is the Rivers for Life 3 conference happening in Temacapulín, México the first week of October. The conference is the third world conference for people affected by dams and their allies. Temaca is one of the communities collaborating with IMDEC and featured in our documentary. They are facing inundation due to a dam that will provide water for Leon, Guanajuato and Guadalajara. Ideally, our documentary will be ready to premiere at this conference (this is very optimistic). We will also be active in a media capacity at the conference, and look forward to learning new ideas on how to engage and meeting interesting actors from all over the world.
The success and participation of the Digital Storytelling for Social Change workshop was encouraging. It is only a matter of time before we create new variations on this workshop in the future. Everyone is a storyteller and can do digital storytelling with minimal instruction and facilitation. Many thanks to collaborating projects and people: Rebecca Glaser and Katie, Moriah and Tarini from Get on the Bus Productions.
And with that, I am back to logging once again.
